ADDITIONAL INFO

In certain applications or environments, XD16N can provide solutions to common material performance issues:

  • If 440C is corroding or underperforming, XD16N offers improved characteristics in nearly all respects. Manufactured by Aubert & Duval, XD16N is a true stainless with 58+ HRC hardness and provides superior fatigue and wear resistance for a price comparable to remelted 440C.

  • Other CREN grades such as XD15NW®, Cronidur® 30, and N360, may outperform 440C in corrosive applications, but at a higher price point. XD16N provides the optimal balance of performance and affordability while maintaining higher hot-hardness levels than other CREN grades.

  • High-temperature applications often call for BG-42®, a higher-cost and supply-constrained stainless steel. If BG-42® is out of budget or out of stock, XD16N is an ideal alternative with higher hot-hardness levels and stainless properties at a significantly cheaper price.

  • While similarly corrosion-resistant, XD16N is a significant upgrade in wear resistance to PH or 300 series grades.

XD16N’s corrosion resistance has been tested against 440C (X105CrMo17) using a salt spray test conducted according to NF X 41-002. The photos below show material surfaces after various salt spray exposure times.
